This article, from the 2012 Q3 issue of the MSA Research Quarterly P&C Outlook Report, published in December, 2012, provides an analyses of and commentary on the aggregate policy acquisition expenses reported by the Canadian P&C insurance industry at year end 2011. In addition to considering the costs incurred by different distribution channels and classes of insurance, the ratio of contingent to base commissions is also discussed. An addendum provides guidance on how to access acquisition expense detail in the regulatory data included in the MSA P&C Researcher software.
